Monitoring

If we want to protect some organisms, first of all, we have to know them well. We need to know what they need for reproduction, how their abundances change according to seasonal variations, weather conditions or habitat degradation. Therefore, we monitor the target species and their behaviour in detail during the project. For butterflies, we apply capture-mark-recapture methods, whereas other arthropods are sampled using a sweeping net or an aspirator. There is no need to catch plants, it is enough to correctly identify them and record their abundances within permanent monitoring patches.
